Job Description


The Area Manager is responsible for the managing and handling of all the   warehousing and distribution functions at the Mission BC branch and area, in coordination with our Head Office. This includes accountability for inbound and outbound freight, as well as adherence to legislative, safety, and organizational policies and procedures. The Area Manager will accomplish effective logistical oversight through strong leadership and decision-making skills. The Area Manager will also work with Head Office to grow the business through a variety of strategies and methods.


  • Plan, and direct the daily operations of the branch.
  • Manage staff and assign duties
  • Study trends to determine Client demand, potential increase in volumes
  • Develop team to fulfill Client requirements
  • Resolve Client complaints
  • Orientate each new hire on the basics of the facility and explain the training schedule
  • Dispatch fuel trucks while dispatch is off shift or on holidays.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain employee schedules
  • Review timecards and employee schedules, ensure all shifts are covered
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll info. (time cards, payroll changes, new hires and terminations) to Human Resources.
  • Enforce progressive discipline policy with counselling sessions and written warnings when necessary.
  • Conduct suspension and termination meetings when necessary
  • Maintain various reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Keep lines of communication opened between Head Office and branch
  • Review and maintain inventory procedures and proper stocking.
  • Identify discrepancies between inventory records and act.
  • Train employees on the importance of safe work practices including proper use of equipment, cleaning guidelines and WHMIS procedures
  • Assist with, responding to maintenance needs, ensuring adequate coverage of shift schedules, perform fuel audits and respond to Client complaints.
  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service.
  • Provide feedback to Regional Manager regarding customer opinions, usage trends, and other pertinent information.
  • Maintain the building, equipment, and property.
  • Maintain a ready for duty status while on shift.
  • Follow all regulatory requirements from all governing legislation.
  • Comply with all HSE policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Respond to and deal with customer communications including, email, fax,   and telephone.
  • Lead and/or attend monthly safety meetings
  • Create incident reports in the event of an accident or near miss
  • Recruit and train staff with assistance from Human Resources
  • Monitor the performance and progress of staff;
  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork within the workforce
  • Communicate all delays or variances in inbound/outbound freight to the appropriate parties.
  • Develop and/or enforce corporate policies regarding security and safety in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain appropriate and complete documentation regarding regulated products and/or hazardous materials.
  • Works with Sales Manager and Regional Manager to develop new business opportunities.
  • Makes cold calls and develops new relationships to generate new business.
  • Maintains and grows existing customer business by nurturing and expanding existing customer relationships.


  • 3 – 5 years of direct work experience in a Supervisory / Management function
  • Direct working knowledge of operations, warehouse management, and transportation management.
  • Experience working in oil and gas sector


High School Diploma

Related degree in management considered an asset
