The Director of Organizational Development will provide leadership aimed at helping AFD Petroleum Ltd. achieve its organizational objectives. This individual ensures that the Human Resource department and AFD are in compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation. The Director of OD works as a strategic partner to the Company ownership and Executive team. They will lead the team to design, deliver and assess corporate learning, performance development, succession and career development frameworks and programs. This individual manages the staffing for the Human Resources department and ensures processes are in place for the smooth operation of the Human Resource Department. He/she also works on projects for the development of policies and programs, and coordinates with the financial department on personnel budgets. He/she presents to the Owner and Executive team as necessary. He/she must develop a comprehensive strategic organizational development program for AFD Petroleum Ltd.
• Human Resources Management
-Performs and coordinates policy reviews and analysis, including the overall management of Human Resource projects and the direction of their staff
-Responsible for overseeing the hiring, orientation, supervision, performance management and possible terminations of all of the employees at AFD Petroleum Ltd.
-Develop and direct standardized onboarding process for all positions
-Discover new ways of attracting top talent and ensure that the Company has an emergency succession plan in place for unforeseen staffing changes
-Research any new developments within the Human Resource field and implement changes where needed
-Analyze benefit programs
-Oversee payroll department
-Develop and analyze measurable reports providing fiscal justification for personnel activities in regards to benefit costs, staffing levels/deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, applicant tracking, compensation, promotions and employee productivity
-Investigate and provide resolutions for employee relations problems
-Liaison with legal team on employment issues and Human Rights cases
• Human Resources Compliance
-Ensures compliance with all legislative requirements (federal and provincial).
-Ensures compliance with all Labour Law and Health and Safety regulations.
-Ensures the security of employee records and the appropriate retention periods for a variety of documents
-Sustain and develop knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed laws and regulations affecting human resources management.
-Perform continuous evaluation, development and execution of policies, programs and processes
• Organizational Development
-Develop projects, present them to the Executive team and implement approved projects.
-Anticipate and identify emerging issues, trends and problems that affect the policies and programs of AFD Petroleum Ltd.
-Identify and address issues that affect the overall health of the organization; morale, effectiveness, turnover, absenteeism and productivity.
-Supports diversity initiatives
-Plans and provides organizational development strategy, direction, advice and counsel to the Executive team as needed
-Execute programs such as training, innovation, employee recognition, activities and recreational programs in a way supporting internal equity and organization’s competitiveness. Participate in recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contract negotiation, job classification, performance evaluation, and employee relations according to policies and principals
-Develop and direct a succession planning structure that identifies talent to be groomed for leadership positions
-Provide recommendations on leadership and organizational behaviours
-Provide guidance for change management initiatives
-Drive corporate culture that benefits performance
-Participate in ongoing personal development and continuous learning
• Minimum of 10 years work experience in a related field required.
• Experience in the petroleum industry would be considered and asset.
• A related Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resources or Psychology
• Bachelor of Law or Masters Degree considered an asset
