JOB SUMMARY

The Senior HR Business Partner will provide leadership and support aimed at helping AFD Petroleum Ltd. achieve its organizational objectives. This individual ensures that the HR, Benefits, and Payroll department is in compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation. They will be responsible for the development, design, delivery and assessment of corporate learning, performance development, succession and career development frameworks and programs. This individual ensures processes are in place for the staffing and overall smooth operation of the HR, Benefits, and Payroll department. They also work on the development of policies and programs, and coordinates with the financial department on personnel budgets. He/she presents to the Owner and Executive team as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Human Resources Management
-Performs and coordinates policy reviews and analysis, including the overall management of Human Resource projects and the direction of their staff
-Responsible for the hiring, orientation, supervision, performance management and possible terminations of all of the employees at AFD Petroleum Ltd.
-Develop and direct standardized onboarding process for all positions
-Discover new ways of attracting top talent and ensure that the Company has an emergency succession plan in place for unforeseen staffing changes
-Research any new developments within the Human Resource field and implement changes where needed
-Analyze benefit programs
-Oversee payroll department
-Develop and analyze measurable reports providing fiscal justification for personnel activities in regards to benefit costs, staffing levels/deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, applicant tracking, compensation, promotions and employee productivity
-Investigate and provide resolutions for employee relations problems
-Liaison with legal team on employment issues and Human Rights cases
-Ensures the security of employee records and the appropriate retention periods for a variety of documents
-Sustain and develop knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed laws and regulations affecting human resources management.
-Perform continuous evaluation, development and execution of policies, programs and processes

• Organizational Development
-Develop projects, present them to the Executive team and implement approved projects.
-Anticipate and identify emerging issues, trends and problems that affect the policies and programs of AFD Petroleum Ltd.
-Identify and address issues that affect the overall health of the organization; morale, effectiveness, turnover, absenteeism and productivity.
-Supports diversity initiatives
-Plans and provides organizational development direction, advice and counsel to the Executive team as needed
-Participate in facilitating the merging of acquisitions.
-Execute programs such as training, innovation, employee recognition, activities and recreational programs in a way supporting internal equity and organization’s competitiveness. Participate in recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contract negotiation, job classification, performance evaluation, and employee relations according to policies and principals
-Develop and direct a succession planning structure that identifies talent to be groomed for leadership positions
-Provide recommendations on leadership and organizational behaviors
-Provide guidance for change management initiatives
-Drive corporate culture that benefits performance
-Participate in ongoing personal development and continuous learning

• Investigation
-Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting to Head Office
-Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
-Implement corrective actions and advise Management on preventative measures

OTHER KEY SKILLS (or product knowledge)
• High proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Adobe products and e-mail required.
• Able to make sound business decisions and evidence based recommendations to senior management.
• Extensive knowledge with organizational structure, change management, employee engagement, performance management, and leadership succession

EXPERIENCE
• 5+ or more years of professional-level human resource generalist experience, working and collaborating with business leaders in a consultative capacity.
• Previous experience working with Payroll and HRIS systems
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of labour and employment laws, regulations, procedures and standards in Canada.
• Proven experience in leading and managing the investigation process.
• Sound general knowledge of HR Programs, Policies & Procedures, and relevant legislation coupled with business acumen.
• Thorough understanding of ability management and return to work practices and programs (LTD, WCB)
• Experience in the petroleum industry would be considered and asset.

EDUCATION

• Post-secondary education in human resources management or a related field.
• HR designation such as CPHR or significant progress towards completion is considered an asset.

Supervise HR, Benefits, and Payroll

DECISION MAKING

Provide consultation and advice on HR, Benefits, and Payroll related matters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office/field setting. There may be a need to attend to situations on work sites.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some overtime and after hours’ work may be required.

TRAVEL

Travel to various worksites and customer premises may be required.
